This off-season Carmelo Anthony did the unexpected, he stayed. Melo had many offers on the table this off-season from many prestigious franchises such as the Chicago Bulls, Houston Rockets, and Los Angeles Lakers but he chose to stay in the big apple. With Phil Jackson taking over as President and a very new coach in Derek Fisher, Carmelo Anthony felt comfortable enough to take the Knicks offer. I’d be comfortable too with a 5 year, $125 million dollar contract. This season will be interesting to see how it all works out but one thing is for sure and that is Carmelo Anthony is “The New Yorker” for the possible next 5 seasons!
As promised Pau Gasol played like a man on a mission. The Lakers center had 16 points in the first half which would’ve given him a $16,000 donation to the Philippines disaster relief. He continued in the second half with 8 more points for a grand total of 24 points and $24,000 that he will donate to UNICEF to help the millions of people in the Philippines. A couple days ago it was said Pau would donate $1,000 per point but Phil Jackson also got in on the action.
The zen master promised Pau a donation of $50 a point, $50 a rebound and $1,000 a charge. Pau’s numbers from last night were 24 points and 10 rebounds. He was unable to record a charge but add those numbers up and it looks like Phil will be donating at least $1,700 to UNICEF!
All in all the Lakers beat the Warriors 102-95, Pau played a great game and at a minimum of $25,7000 will be donated to UNICEF to help the Philippines! Great job Pau!
As you may know Pau Gasol is one of the smartest and most humanitarian guys in the NBA. Gasol was enrolled in medical school at the University of Barcelona and continues to be very interested in medicine. He volunteers regularly at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
If you don’t know, a super typhoon hit the Philippines in early November killing thousands and leaving millions homeless. The NBA and players alike have been donating money over the last couple of weeks but Pau is being creative with his donation. He’s decided to donate $1,000 for every point he scores Friday against the Golden State Warriors. He’s urging others to play along and donate as well.
One of the people who is helping Pau out on his quest is EX Lakers coach, Phil Jackson. The zen master tweeted to Pau he would donate $50 per point, $50 per rebound, and $1,000 for every charge taken! Hopefully, Pau is up for the challenge as he’s got a lot of money to raise!
@paugasol i’m in for $50 per point, $50 per rebound, and $1000
for every charge taken, mi compadre
